National Level Surveys to assess the cyber security landscape

Sri Lanka CERT launches National Level Surveys to assess the cyber security landscape in Sri Lanka.

The following surveys are being launched with the assistance of various stakeholders.

  1. Public Officers’ Information and Cyber Security Readiness Assessment
  2. Cyber Security Professional’s Supply and Demand Assessment
  3. Readiness of the Critical Infrastructure Service Providers
  4. Citizens Awareness and Readiness of Vulnerable Communities

1. Public Officers’ Information and Cyber Security Readiness Assessment

Organizations often underestimate the human factor in cybersecurity. This survey assesses the readiness of public sector employees in Sri Lanka.

Project Objectives

  1. Conduct a national survey to assess public officers’ readiness
  2. Develop a national strategy for enhancing their readiness

Progress (as of 15.06.2021)

Data collected from 3,540 employees in 236 organizations. Strategy drafting is underway.

2. Cyber Security Professional’s Supply and Demand Assessment

This survey identifies the gap between supply and demand for cybersecurity professionals in Sri Lanka.

Project Objectives

  1. Analyze supply of professionals in the job market
  2. Analyze demand across industries
  3. Identify skill gaps
  4. Formulate a national operational strategy

70% survey completion. Data verification in progress.

3. Readiness of Critical Infrastructure Service Providers

This survey assesses the cybersecurity readiness of organizations that maintain critical infrastructure in Sri Lanka.

Project Objectives

  1. Identify critical infrastructure (CI) service providers
  2. Define critical information infrastructure (CII)
  3. Evaluate risk and readiness levels
  4. Draft a readiness improvement strategy

Surveyed 60 organizations. Drafting of the strategy is in progress.

4. Citizens Awareness and Readiness of Vulnerable Communities

This national survey focuses on citizens’ cybersecurity awareness and the vulnerabilities among specific communities.

Project Objectives

  1. Understand general citizen perceptions and awareness
  2. Assess vulnerabilities in specific communities

Survey instruments are finalized. Pilot survey to begin soon in partnership with the Department of Census and Statistics.
