By using security features provided by Instagram, users can better secure their accounts. One of the most effective methods is enabling Two-Factor Authentication.
- Click on the settings option next to the username.
- Select ‘Privacy and Security’.
- Select ‘Two-Factor Authentication’.
- Select ‘Use text message’ to get the security code.
- Click ‘Turn On’.
- Enter your mobile number and click ‘Next’. A 6-digit security code will be sent.
- Enter the 6-digit code and click ‘Done’ to complete setup.
Making your Instagram account private ensures that only approved followers can view your content.
- Click on the settings icon next to your username.
- Select ‘Privacy and Security’.
- Go to ‘Account Privacy’ and enable ‘Private Account’.
Instagram allows users to report impersonation accounts, especially if your photos or identity are used without consent.
a) If the victim has an Instagram account:
- Search for the fake profile and open it from your original account. Tap the options (⋮) button.
- Select ‘Report User’.
- Select ‘It’s Inappropriate’.
- Then choose ‘Report Account’.
- Select ‘It’s pretending to be someone else’.
- Choose ‘Me’ and then click ‘Submit Report’.
Note: Instagram will review the request and take action. Final decision rests with Instagram.
b) If the victim doesn’t have an Instagram account:
- Visit Report Impersonation Account Form
- Or search “report an impostor account Instagram” on Google and select the official form.
- Fill out the form with:
- Victim’s full name
- Victim’s contact email
- Reported account’s full name & username
- Clear photo of victim holding an ID
If you received an email from Instagram notifying an email address change, you can undo it using the ‘revert this change’ option in that email.
If additional changes were made (like your password), you must report the issue directly to Instagram.
- Go to the login screen and click ‘Forgot Password?’.
- Enter your username, email, or phone number, then tap ‘Send Login Link’.
You will receive an email with a link to access your account and reset your password.
If any photo or video violates your privacy, report it to Instagram immediately.
a) If the victim has an Instagram account:
- Go to the photo, click the 3 dots (…) menu.
- Tap ‘Report’.
- Choose the appropriate reason and then tap ‘Submit Report’.
- You’ll be notified if action is taken.
b) If the victim doesn’t have an Instagram account:
- Visit: Report Privacy Violation
- Or search “Report privacy rights violation” on Google.
- Fill out the form with:
- URL of the photo
- Victim’s contact email
- Description of how privacy is violated
To block someone on Instagram:
- Go to their profile and tap the menu (3 dots).
- Select ‘Block this user’.
- Tap ‘Block’ again to confirm.
- You will receive a confirmation.
