As 5G rolls out, the internet is becoming faster. And with that more and more of our activities are going online: household goods, security systems, alarm systems, traffic lights, production lines. This is referred to as the Internet of Things (IOT). In 2021 it is estimated that some 25 billion devices will be online.

Like everything else, when using devices that can be controlled online, it is important to follow basic security advice. This is important because hackers use bots to scan thousands of devices for weak security. And one they break into a device connected to the internet, they can download information, including personal information, very quickly and hack into your network too.

To help avoid this
  • When installing a device, always change the default password using a strong, unique passwords.
  • Update software when prompted since these are likely to contain information patches.
